about the artist
I’ve been making art for over 50 years, first to entertain myself as a kid and then to entertain others as a professional illustrator, cartoonist, and fine artist. Though I’m a cat lover myself (that’s my Cleo on the cobalt blue background) I am equally enthusiastic to paint pets of the canine persuasion.
The Portrait process
Approximately 3 – 4 weeks start to finish

- Contact me to commission the portrait.
- We’ll agree to the painting size, details, delivery date, and price.
- I’ll send you an invoice for a non-refundable deposit.
source material
- I work from photos. Clear, well-shadowed images of your pet’s face are key.
- I’ll visit your home to take my own if you live within 10 miles of South Orange, NJ.
- If you’re farther away, I’ll give you instructions to take them yourself.
pencil to paper
- I’ll make a detailed drawing from the photos.
- I’ll send you the drawing for comments and final approval.
paint happens!
- The final painting is ready for you to pick up. If you need to have it mailed, I’ll build a custom box to keep it safe; its cost will be included in the shipping price.
- The canvas edges are unfinished, intended for you to display in the frame of your choice.
